Both Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook have had to listen to all kinds of silly rumors lately. One quote came out from “reporter” Stephen A. Smith said that KD would go to the Lakers this season with Russell Westbrook following him the next season. First off, let’s get one thing straight, don’t listen to Stephen A. He is a man who has no actual sources and is just dying for the spotlight. There is a reason him and Kevin Durant got into it during the offseason.
Secondly, the only people that can be trusted when it comes to the free agency rumors are the players themselves. Everyone else could be making up stuff just to get views and attention.
Anyways, the man who most believe will go to LA is Russell Westbrook. During this All-Star Break Westbrook got rid of those rumors real quick. When asked if he would like to play with the Lakers Westbrook straight up said, “Nah, I like where I am now. Oklahoma City is a great place for him.”
This is such an encouraging sign. The more likelihood that Westbrook stays then the more likelihood that Durant does the same. The two are arguably both in the top five of the best players in the NBA right now, it would only make sense for them to stick together. Only make sense to build their legacies in OKC.
So no, Westbrook does not care about the big market. He does not care about “going home.” If there is one thing in this world that Westbrook cares about it is winning games and quite frankly playing in OKC alongside Kevin Durant is what gives him the best chance to do just that.
