After winning in game one the Thunder struggled in game two. It was easy to see that the Warriors knew they had to respond in that game and were not going to let themselves lose again at home. The Warriors would blow out the Thunder in game two and had people jumping back onto their bandwagon. After game three tonight, they will be jumping back off, and have good reason to do so. The Thunder were able to beat the Warriors on Sunday night by a score of 135-105.
The game tied the Thunder’s highest score for points in a playoff game. OKC was clearly feeling it and was going to get revenge on the Warriors. Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook would both go off in this one, KD scoring 33 and Westbrook scoring 30. They scored that many points without even playing in the fourth quarter. Westbrook was also two rebounds away from having a triple-double. He surely would have got it had he played in the fourth.
The Thunder were not only able to score a ton in this game but they had lock down defense throughout. The Thunder would limit Steph Curry to 24 points and Klay Thompson to 18 points. Curry made three three-pointers and Thompson made two. In comparison, the Thunder’s weakest spot on offense, Andre Roberson also hit three three-pointers but he made his on only five shots. It might not be much but when the Thunder can get that from him it is huge. His defensive game already brings so much to the Thunder’s lineup that the offense is just a cherry on the cake.
Another important part of this game was Serge Ibaka. Ibaka was able to get going early on and would finish the game with 14 points and eight rebounds on 6-of-13 shooting. Ibaka played thirty-two minutes in the game. If he can play at that high of level every game for OKC then the Thunder come close to unbeatable.
The Thunder will play again on Tuesday night, again in OKC. It will be a huge game for the Thunder. If they can defend their home court then it will put the Warriors on the edge of elimination. The Warriors have not lost two games in a row this season but they have never played a team that is this talented and confident. The home crowd will need to be pumping for that game.
