There are a couple Thunder players making an appearance in the Olympics this August, Domantos Sabonis and Alex Abrines, but Enes Kanter will not be playing. The reason is not because Kanter chose to skip out on the Olympics it is because the Turkish team did not want him. How could a team like that not want such a talent player? Well… it is all politics. In the past Kanter has voiced his displeasure with the Turkish government and that has lead them to leading him off the team.
Kanter is a support of a man named Fethullah Gulen who has been exiled from Turkey because of some of his actions towards the government. Gulen has recently been accused by the Turkish president for a military coup attempt, an attempt that did fail. Gulen has taken to Twitter himself before stating that the way the Turkish government is treating its people is similar to how Hitler treated the people of Germany.
Even after these harsh words by Gulen Kanter continued to show his support for him and now it looks like it is coming back to bite him. Kanter recently made the below Twitter post that shows some of the death threats he has received.
Son bir kaç gündür aldığım sadece bazı Ölüm Tehditleri.!

The messages say things like “You’ll be executed” and “You will die soon.” Kanter’s response in that tweet is him saying “Death threats continue to fall. Prayer does not stand still.”
It appears that Kanter is going to stay strong with his words, not backing down from what he believes. Kanter is supporting a movement that he believes in, let’s all do the same and support him. Keep him in your thoughts in prayers as he faces these rough times.
